It will come as no surprise to those who know me that I have been eagerly awaiting today’s announcement of Apple’s iPad tablet device.

Last month, the news that Larry Ellison invited Marc Benioff to speak at Oracle’s OpenWorld Conference was enough to drive me out of the closet with my months-long speculation that Oracle may be edging toward buying Salesforce.com. At the time, I wrote an entry in this blog called “Salesforce.Oracle.com: A Look into One Man’s Crystal Ball” setting forth my beliefs that because the world is moving away from on-premise applications, and because SFDC is besting CRMOD regularly in application selections, it would make sense for Oracle to make a play for Salesforce if it wants to retain a leadership position in the CRM space.
